Lawrence Jones
UK Entrepreneur and CEO of UKFast
Theatre: Entrepreneurs Forum
Lawrence Jones talks about how he has built a company from nothing into one of the UK’s fastest growing businesses worth more than £80m without borrowing or taking funding along the journey.
At 43, Lawrence Jones has been running his own businesses for 25 years. Through his internet hosting company UKFast, he has helped digital entrepreneurs to make their fortunes in the world’s fast growing marketplace. He started UKFast twelve years ago with a small amount of capital from a previous business deal and grew the technology company without borrowing funds.
Surviving the dotcom crash, UKFast has grown year on year, consistently appearing in the Sunday Times Tech Track 100. Recently rated as the fastest growing technology business in the North West, Jones attributes much of the success to the quality of people he employs. Going from 2 to 130 people in just over a decade he has created a culture where employees thrive on challenge and reward.
Placing innovation at the heart of his business, Jones’ Research & Development team developed the world’s first bulk text messaging tool and helped Microsoft to build their very first cloud hosting platform. He was the Institute of Director’s Young Director of the Year in 2007 and EN Magazine’s Technical Entrepreneur of the Year 2010. The 4000+ clients on the UKFast network include Barclays, Virgin and Chelsea FC.
